Gabriel Faure? Whose music site is this anyway?

It’s Yours – Dear listener! Then why do I get stuck on my favourites? Or those whom I consider “THE Greatest”?

It’s not fair!

I’ve addressed my prujudice regarding Debussy and Ravel (next post below) and then, right away… comes a request for Faure!

I checked and only had 2 pieces by Faure. He’s a highly regarded Composer, yet I’ve never ‘investigated’ him. With hundreds and thousands of Chopins, Mozarts, Beethovens, Listzts, Rachmaninoffs, Bachs, Handels and so on and so forth; my ears have been captivated. Yet …  WHY should I decide you don’t get to hear Faure?

A  Classical buff in California sent me his recommendations of Faure … and so here are a few WITHOUT my prejudicial comments!

    Well Taneyev – I’ve certainly “changed my tune” about Faure since this was written! I’ve since added quite a few of his pieces to my library

    I love the guy. Have all his chamber works and about 80% of the piano, plus some symphonics and the very rare unfinished violin concerto (he did only the first mouvement)IMHO, he’s the pic of romantic French music of the 19th.century.

    Hi Jim, I’m hugging you as I listen to the Nocturne 13 op. 19. That was great. What a marvelous piece. I love Faure. I notice you chose the Andante from the second violin sonata, though I haven’t listened yet. I have the beginning of that piece on my phone’s answering machine. Good choice.
    For about a year I listened to nothing but Faure. I can’t explain it. I wanted to hear nothing else. Now I’m branching out to jazz and other classical, and Baba artists, and Ron Greenstein. It’s healthier. I am glad for Faure. Once his family and friends were caught up in the praises of Debussy, everyone was enchanted, and they advised Faure to start composing in his style. Faure said if I do that where is the need for Faure?
    I read a little of his bio but didn’t get very far. He was director of the best music academy in France and had little time for composition, and some of his later pieces sound too much alike, I think. But, what soul! Pretty good service on this sound candy site. Thanks, I will slowly browse thru the whole thing. Be well. Lisa G. sent me an e-mail, and requests a poem or something for Ron.
